Person of the Week: Rick Moore
Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Born April 25, 1971 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Rick Moore began much like legendary Jim McClure, Elmer Trett and Paul Plummer racing the local dirt drags. When Rick was sixteen years old he went to a dirt drag event at Zinc City with a family friend. He couldn’t wait to get home and build a bike. It was the season finale which gave Rick all winter to put together his first bike for the next season. His first bike was an ’82 Yamaha YZ80 that he raced in the 0-125cc class with great success.
In 1999, Rick stepped up to his first Harley dragbike which was a car tire high-gear only 96-inch Iron Head Harley. Rick won the Reading Motorcycle Club championship in his rookie year. In 2005 Rick earned his NHRA Pro Stock Bike license through the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School which helped him land a ride in 2006 with the Mid-Continent Motorsports Team, led by owner/tuner, Mike Bahnmaier. Together they won three Pro-Dragster championships with AHDRA. Today, Rick and Mike campaign a Pro-Fuel Nitro Harley which they’ve ran a best of 6.76 @ 206mph.
At the time Rick started racing in AHDRA, he and his girlfriend, Riki, also purchased Shane Estes’ Suzuki GSXR Pro Stock bike in hopes of competing in the Prostar Series. With the announcement of the cancellation of Pro Stock the project got put aside for another day.
In addition to racing with Mike, Rick also races for the Banky Racing Team where they recently won the AHDRA Pro-Gas championship. He is also currently testing an AHDRA Super Gas bike for Mell Boys Speed and plans to compete in the AHDRA Pro Mod class next season.
Rick holds both an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle license and an NHRA SuperComp Dragster license to go along with his AHDRA Top Fuel license. As far as 2010 is concerned, Rick is undecided as to what class(es) he will run at AHDRA next season, but Pro-Mod, Pro-Gas, Pro-Dragster, Pro-Fuel or Top Fuel are all possibilities. Rick will also go back to his roots and compete on a limited schedule racing a KTM dirt dragger. Maybe someone reading this article has a nitro-burning lawnmower that needs a driver. Call Rick, I’m sure he would be glad to win a championship for you.
